Using scissors and brushes as tools, Jens Jacob Sabber Jensen created imaginative, fantastical, and whimsical paper cuts of people, animals, and underground trolls. Some downright beautiful. Others fascinating in their detail. A few are almost Storm P. Like. Depths and darkness can also be found in his papercuts - and humour. Sabber was truly the people’s artist, cutting for the many. Sabber - an original paper cutter unfolds Sabber’s fascinating life story and world of papercuts.

Origima is a Japanese paper folding art and has been practised since the 17th century. From the end of the 20th century the art of folding has experienced a renewed interest - both artistically and scientifically. Today artists across the whole world still folds big and small sculptures in paper; even scientists within the field of space exploration and medical surgery explores the question of life through origami’s wisdom.
Hands on Origami unfolds the fascinating history of origami and shows examples of its many iterations and purposes.

Bit Vejle
In the museum’s core exhibition the world renowned psaligrapher, Bit Vejle, has collected a variety of the many impressive artworks, she has created with her embroidery scissors throughout her life.
Bit Vejle’s world consists of stories with beautiful motifs, but her art holds more than just pretty flowers and chirping birds. Every single papercut has its own story to tell and invites the observer to reflect and interpret. Some touches serious topics, whilst others celebrate the little things.
H.C. ANDERSEN’S PAPERCUT

H.C. Andersen
Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen is world-famous for his countless adventures. He was already recognised in his time as one of the most original authors in 19th-century Europe. However, Andersen is also famous for his imaginative papercuts and is believed to have invented the Danish braided Christmas hearts.
At the Museum for Paperart, you can experience a true national treasure by the beloved Andersen. In cooperation with Museum Odense a new original cut by Andersen will be shown every six months

Ann Iren Buan
Ann Iren Buan works at the crossroads between the medium of drawing and sculpture, exploring perspectives on precariousness. She creates monumental works in paper and pigment that are left in stages of decay, expressing feelings of fear, discomfort and vulnerability. As medial hybrids, the works challenge boundaries between sculpture and drawing, bodies and architecture, strength and vulnerability.

Debjani Bhardwaj
Debjani Bhardwaj explores where people are divided and united across borders and cultures, taking the viewer on a journey of fragments, false memories, liberation, and fear. With psaligraphs, tunnel books, and shadow installations that depict bizarre, dreamlike scenarios, Bhardwaj explores universal and site-specific myths and folklore about human existence and hybrid beings. Inspired by ancient stories filled with legends of Mahabarata and the jungle, Bhardwaj seeks to find relationships between the contemporary human condition and the narratives that have shaped it.
